In my position as XML Production Coordinator, I am responsible for obtaining, posting, reviewing, and trouble­shooting XML content for all platforms. I manage all traffic in and out of the XML Production department, coordinate with the Zinio Production, Development, Customer Service, Sales, and Marketing teams, manage vendors, and work with publishers to ensure that their supplied XML files meet our required specifications. Meeting publishers’ deadlines is essential, so working outside normal office hours including evenings, weekends, and holidays is not unusual. I am also responsible for troubleshooting problems reported by our publishers and our Customer Support Team, and I am on call at all hours to resolve these issues from home when necessary.

Working on contract for a design agency, I produced two holiday catalogs for Beverages and More! I created layouts from design specifications, then imported, sized, and cropped FPO images as provided. I imported content from client-provided spreadsheets, then formatted the content and did minor editing and major copyfitting. This project required that I produce several rounds of galleys and implement many client changes, then create clean, accurate mechanicals and perform preflight checks and troubleshooting. I was also required to supervise multi-day press checks.

As a member of the production team at a non-profit membership/education organization for computer ­profes­sionals, I performed hands-on production duties for a wide variety of print and web projects. My web production duties included creating new pages, creating and optimizing graphics and images, and updating the HTML and CSS throughout the site.

My accomplishments during my tenure at IDG included bringing our prepress operation in-house, providing shorter lead times for our advertisers and cutting our annual prepress expenses by 30%. I recommended and implemented our migration from Quark XPress to Adobe InDesign, and trained the staff to utilize InDesign’s features to their best advantage. I also implemented an efficient cross-platform workflow for the Creative and Editorial departments.
